Film Screening—Conscious Being: The Wisdom of Joanna Macy

June 22 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

“The most radical thing any of us can do at this time, is to be fully present to what is happening in the world. —Joanna Macy

Join us for a short documentary about Joanna Macy, a renowned environmentalist, Buddhist scholar, and systems thinker who has inspired thousands through her Work That Reconnects framework.

Who is Joanna Macy?

At 96 years old, Macy is one of the most influential ecological thinkers of our time. Her work helps people respond effectively to climate change and social justice issues without burning out.

Why attend?

  • Learn practical tools for transforming despair about the social-ecological crises into responsible active hope
  • Discover the Work That Reconnects framework that has helped activists and community leaders worldwide
  • Experience how facing difficult emotions about our planet can actually lead to greater joy and purpose

Conscious Being: The Wisdom of Joanna Macy was produced and graciously shared by Naropa University to celebrate the launch of the Naropa Joanna Macy Center for Resilience and Regeneration. This 30-minute film offers an intimate look at the basic tenets of Macy’s internationally recognized legacy of The Work That Reconnects, including her efforts addressing nuclear crisis and the principals of “deep time”–connecting with past and future generations, and what Macy presents as liberation dharma or our individual place in society as we face the spiritual dilemmas of our time.

After the film, we’ll break into small groups to discuss what resonated with us, then come together to share insights as a community.

Free and open to the public; a donation of $5 at the door is appreciated. Free parking is across the street from the building.

Please RSVP here.
