Figure Foundations: Realistic Drawing for Youth is a one-day introductory art workshop designed to help students ages 12–16 explore the fundamentals of realistic figure drawing in a supportive, pressure-free environment. The workshop emphasizes observation, proportion, and creative confidence rather than technical perfection.

Students will be guided through foundational drawing exercises that help them better understand the human form while building comfort with sketching from reference. No prior drawing experience is required. The workshop is designed to be accessible, encouraging, andappropriate for youth at varying skill levels.

GOALS

1. Introduction to the fundamentals of realistic figure drawing

2. Build confidence in observational drawing skills

3. Encourage creative exploration without fear of mistakes

4. Provide a positive, supportive introduction to visual arts instruction

About the Artist:

Sydney is a fashion designer and teaching artist with a studio space here in Utility Works! She is a multidisciplinary teaching artist, designer, and community educator with extensive experience in youth instruction, community health education, public programming, and private design practice. Background includes early childhood education, public health outreach, fashion and textile design, and nonprofit program leadership across Philadelphia. Known for accessible, confidence-building instruction and process-driven creative education.

Parking:

  • Street Parking is metered.
  • There is ample street parking on Baltimore Ave. The Highland Avenue parking lot (18 N Highland Ave.) is brightly lit and half a block away.
