Fall 2022 Yard Talk: Autumnal Trinket Bowls/Horticultural Therapy Workshop

October 19, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

In this workshop, we will explore the important role of soil as the foundation of all life while creating a take-home trinket bowl.

In this workshop, we will explore the important role of soil as the foundation of all life while creating a take-home trinket bowl made with leaf, flower, and other natural object imprints. We’ll talk about the utilization of clay throughout many cultures and work on a mindfulness exercise while collecting plant materials to press into our clay trinket bowls. We will also discuss the potential cognitive, sensory, physical, emotional and educational benefits of horticultural therapy practices through workshops such as this, and how you can further introduce nature and natural practices into your everyday routine to help lower stress, fatigue, and anxiety.

Kate Irvine is a trained horticulturist and mixed media artist with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture with a Certificate in Horticultural Therapy from Temple University and a Bachelor of Art in Fine Art from Moore College of Art and Design. She has also had experience studying and working with medicinal herbs, and has cultivated a broad collection of native and ornamental shrubs and perennials for her own home garden.
