Ensemble Novo: Exploring a Century of Brazilian Song in North Philly
Join us in North Philly with Ensemble Novo. Ensemble Novo explores the uplifting, endlessly rhythmic music of Brazil through the lens of improvisation. On this program, the 5-piece group celebrates classic samba, bossa nova and Musica Popular Brazileira in a spirit of spontaneous adventure.
About Ensemble Novo:
Ensemble Novo celebrates the windswept melodies and perpetual-motion rhythms of Brazilian music. The five-piece band has been performing in the Philadelphia region for a decade, and has recorded a series of mini-albums that have been played on WXPN-FM and WRTI-FM as well as stations in Rio de Janeiro and across the globe. Its sound is a balance of moods and textures: The crystalline clarity of the vibraphone is crossed with the husky introspection of the tenor saxophone, lively sparks from nylon-string guitar are animated by the crisp pulse of percussion. In its review of This Is Ensemble Novo, The Vinyl District raved that Ensemble Novo puts “a playful spin on some of the world’s most welcoming music, Brazilian pop from the 1960s and 1970s.
