Learn the basics of encaustic painting & collage making!
What is encaustic wax and how is it used in art?
Encaustic consists of natural beeswax and damar resin (crystallized tree sap). Once heated to a melting point, it can be applied as a base, top-coat, adhesive, and/or mixed with pigments! This medium lends itself wonderfully to mixed media art, abstract paintings, and even portraiture! In this workshop we’ll be covering the basics of painting & collage-making with encaustic wax.
What you’ll leave with : • Introductory knowledge of the encaustic medium, its history, and its artistic applications. • A finished piece to hang, or a work-in-progress to continue building your skill with!
What you can bring (not required): * All materials will be included with your ticket cost, but feel free to bring the following if you like! • Small-medium wood canvas (plywood cutoffs work great!) • Stenciles or scraps of lace/open-weave materials to create textured patterns within your wax • Photos/collage materials you want to work with
