Foodman (食品まつり/Takahide Higuchi) is a Japanese electronic producer, DJ, and painter. He has been releasing music since 2011 and is based in Yokohama. His work first gained traction in the early 2010s when he was recognised as a leading name in Japan’s footwork and juke scene.
His ever-evolving and mutating musical vocabulary draws from every kind of music he stumbles across, from Chicago footwork to Okinawan folk music of his roots, ambient to J-pop, Talvin Singh’s Indian classical music/drum ‘n’ bass fusion to classic video game soundtracks, then twists them all with his playful psychedelia. This extends to his remixes and DJ mixes, including his monthly residency at NTS radio mix.
Opening for Foodman is local fav, Yolo Ono who cut her teeth with the likes of Mad Decent and Factory Girls crews.
With her first DJ gig in October 2011, Yolo has continued to perform with acts such as James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, Venus X, Maluca, Princess Nokia, Anna Lunoe, Uniique, VanJess, Masego, and Jess Jubilee. Yolo carries her versatile style across a variety of events, including music festivals, in-store events, award shows, conventions/summits, and workout classes/yoga retreats.
While Yolo Ono’s initial love for music stemmed from early aughts bloghouse roots, she plays a versatile arsenal of genres including deep house, soulful house, electro, and disco, with a passion to amplify up-and-coming and femme artists.
