Cobbs Creek Art Club: Self Portraits with Nila Devaney
September 11 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Create vibrant and abstracted self portraits through story telling and story sharing
In this workshop, students will be guided in creating vibrant and abstracted self portraits. We will have discussion about how creating art can support the process of identity-building, memory and storytelling. Before drawing, I will lead students through an interviewing/ storytelling exercise with each other, and they will have the opportunity to discover which parts of themselves they are interested in sharing in their portrait. In their art piece, they have the option to portray their face or full body, their cultural background, life stories, family. They will also be invited to portray their favorite food, things, activities, and their fears, hopes, dreams. This exercise is an opportunity to tell their own story, rather than an exercise in drawing an anatomically-correct portrait.
