Join us for Building Bridges, a multi-media showcase featuring the artwork of incarcerated students enrolled in Eastern University’s Prison Education Program (PEP). Renowned Philadelphia poet Ursula Rucker and talented multi-instrumental musician Miles Orion Butler will co-host the event for the evening, leading participants through a showcase of visual art, music, poetry, theater, and dance created by PEP students and local community artists. During the summer of 2023, students participating in a PEP creative arts course at SCI-Chester designed the works of art to be shared on this evening, but due to their confines, can’t be physically present with us to do so– our collective hope is to build bridges via creative expression so that space can be made for them to share their hard work and their passions. Join us for an evening of reflection, connection, and creation in community. This event was sponsored by both Eastern University and Swarthmore’s Lang Center for Civic and Social Engagement.
