Bookbinding: Cased In Perfect Bindings & Coptics

A two week intermediate level bookbinding workshop at the Soapbox Community Print Shop & Zine Library in West Philadelphia.

This workshop happens on 2 Thursdays from 6:00 pm – 9:00pm.

Workshop dates are March 20 and April 3.

About this event

Come advance your bookbinding skills and learn two different ways to bind a book! In this workshop you will learn a Cased In Perfect Binding, which is an adhesive binding in which all the pages are held together with glue, and a Coptic Binding which holds all the pages together with sewing.

Please note: We require all visitors to the Soapbox to wear masks, regardless of their vaccination status. The instructor reserves the right to ask you to leave if you do not comply.

About the instructor

Bread Tarleton is an award-winning cartoonist and zine-maker based in Philadelphia. They are a graduate of The Center for Cartoon Studies, where they taught classes in Zine-making and Comics Publication, and received an MFA in Cartooning. They are currently a fellow at The Soapbox Community Print Shop and the book editor at A.B.O. Comix, a publisher that puts out the work of Incarcerated LGBTQ+ people. Their next book Soften the Blow is coming out with Fieldmouse Press in 2024.

Cost

$80 for Current Soapbox Members/$90 for Non-Members

Plus a $15 materials fee that covers paper, thread, and use of all tools and equipment.
