Beyond Homespun: Commerce, Culture, and Colonial Cloth

Part of our Newlin Speaker Series, this talk explores fabric and clothing production in the Colonial era.

Come learn about how fabric and clothing were produced during the Colonial era. Textile specialist Eva Mergen will delve into types of tools and raw materials used in fabric and clothing production, division of labor between men and women, how production differed in other parts of the colonies, international trade, and more! This talk will also include some demonstrations as well as the opportunity to ask questions.
