Mendelssohn Chorus of Philadelphia is proud to announce its first-ever “All-Philly Big Sing,” a groundbreaking event that will unite diverse voices from across the city in a joyous celebration of music and community. Joining us as song leaders are some of Philadelphia’s most esteemed choral directors and conductors, representing the city’s diverse musical landscape. This event will feature Moira Smiley, as our headlining songleader and we’re thrilled to welcome Miriam Davidson (ANNA Crusis Feminist Choir), Rollo Dilworth (Singing City and Temple University Singing Owls), Mitos Andaya Hart (PhilHarmonia), Elizabeth Parker (Commonwealth Youth Choir), Paul Rardin (Temple University Director of Choral Activities), and Julia Zavadsky (Nashirah: The Jewish Choral of Greater Philadelphia), each bringing their unique expertise and cultural perspectives to the stage. These talented individuals will guide us through an unforgettable musical journey, showcasing the rich tapestry of our community’s voices.
The “All-Philly Big Sing” is designed to be a truly inclusive and welcoming event, reflecting the diversity of our city in both its leadership and song selection. By teaching songs from the stage without the need for sheet music, we’re creating an accessible environment for all who love to sing, regardless of formal training. As we raise our voices together, we’ll explore music from various cultures, fostering understanding and appreciation across different backgrounds. Also featuring Ariel Alvarado, MCP’s new Assistant Conductor and Director of Community Programs, our goal is to ignite a musical spark that will resonate throughout Philadelphia, leaving participants humming tunes that bridge cultural divides and celebrate our shared humanity. Join us for this electrifying experience at Rodeph Shalom, where the power of music will unite us all in harmony.
