a river is… Exhibition Opening

You’re invited to celebrate the opening of a river is…, our first 2023 LandLab artist residency exhibition. LandLab is our immersive artist-in-residence program, providing artists or teams with resources and support to create innovative, site-specific installations or performative artworks.
This year’s artists-in-residence, Bitter Officer-Narvasa and Yilu Jin, embarked on a textual and textural exploration of the Schuylkill River watershed. Weaving together memoir, research, and community-based practices, the artists used natural dyes and organic materials from riverbank plants to create textile pieces. Their work considers the legacies of neighborhood change and displacement along the Schuylkill and the increasing uncertainty of life along the banks of the river during a time of environmental crisis.
At the opening, visitors will be invited to write about their own experiences with the Schuylkill River, then collage their written reflections together to create a collaborative group installation.
Food and refreshments will be served in our art gallery. This event is free and open to the public; donations are appreciated and registration is encouraged.
