A Different Gardening 101

May 22, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Disaster, Promise & Wildflowers in Philadelphia and Beyond

Jeff Carpineta is a Philadelphia open space preservation activist, artist, and wildflower gardener (Emerald Wildflower Garden, founder of The Perch Music & Arts Workshop), and Realtor with Phila’s oldest real estate company and PHS Garden supporter, Solo Real Estate.

Jeff will share perspectives on “plant blindness”, the myth of the green thumb, some history of Philadelphia’s damaged ecology, efforts to heal, and the importance of native plant gardening for Them (birds, butterflies, bees, moths) to honor the web of connections that our life and life around the planet depends upon.

Attendees will receive:

  • a native plant from Good Host Plants
  • plant lists for getting started at home or in your neighborhood
  • strategies for local land preservation
  • clear guidance about resources (nurseries, websites, area gardens, education options)
  • a free copy of Ways with Wildflowers published by Bowman’s Wildflower Preserve.

Attendees will also receive a ticket to the 2023 Garden Concert Series at the Emerald Wildflower Garden.

Registration closes at noon on Thursday 5/18, or prior if the class sells out. If you would like to attend after registration has closed, please send an email to kkapoano@pennhort.org and we’ll check to see if we can accommodate. If you need to cancel, please make sure to do so 48 hours in advance of the event so we can issue a refund.

Please note: this garden serves alcohol so a valid, physical state issued ID is required to enter. Anyone under 21 is welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
