image via CETCOJoin Mayor Nutter, the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and the PWD on April 25th for a “powering up” ceremony celebrating Philly’s first city-owned solar photovoltaic installation at the Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant.
The 250 kW installation covers more than an acre of land that was previously unused, and was made possible by an $850,000 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Funds from PWD and technical help from the DOE’s Solar American Cities program also made the installation possible. The control plant will use 100 percent of the solar power generated by the array on-site.
