It might be difficult to gain access to Vollmecke Orchard’s CSA this season, but getting on their waiting list will work to your advantage in the end. The 37-acre family-owned farm in Chester County is on a mission is to “be a vibrant successful family farm based on quality produce and respect for nature.” They believe that consumers have the right to clean food that benefits their health and the environment. They grow without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, GMOs or sewage sludge. Their 23-week CSA runs from late May until late October and offers Tuesday or Friday pick-up at the farm or at a variety of co-op pick-up locations in Paoli, Narberth and West Chester. Each share is sufficient to feed two adults who eat a lot of produce, or a family of four. The large list of fruits, vegetables and herbs offered by Vollmecke include oriental greens, rutabaga, sage, red raspberries and peaches. An optional Cut-Your-Own flower bouquet addition is also available mid-season, weather and crop permitting.

Vollmecke completes its CSA memberships by inviting new applicants from its waiting list to join. Shares are $795, which can be paid in full or in three payments. A limited number of working shares are also available.
- Members may harvest some of their own produce using the Pick-Your-Own option for specified fruits or vegetables.
- The orchard uses crop rotation, cover crops and compost to enrich its soil.
- Members unable to pick up their share on a given day may send an authorized friend or relative to do so for them.
- Each pick up site features a “swap box” or “exchange table” where members can exchange items with one another to fit their personal preferences.
- Those interested can visit the farm to participate in harvesting and weeding.
- Vollmecke Orchards hosts events for members throughout the season like hayrides, homemade ice cream tasting and bonfires.
