Grid’s Guide to Philly’s Top CSAs: Red Earth Farm

Start

Red Earth Farm, located in Schuylkill County, promises fresh local produce grown without any synthetic, artificial or chemical substances. The 13-acre farm shares its bounty at local farmers’ markets and with CSA members from June to November. Weekly CSA shares are chosen by members from an online list of available produce. These orders are then shipped to a wide range of locations in Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs for either Tuesday or Thursday pick-up. Depending on the season, CSA members can expect to choose from a large variety of colorful produce, including black and Asian eggplant, patti pan squash, red beets and seven types of peppers.

Red Earth also invites shareholders to visit the farm and experience how their food is grown and raised. Events like potluck suppers and the Harvest Barn Dance offer children and adults the opportunity to taste seasonal flavors and escape urban life, while the annual garlic planting and early summer weeding fests let folks get their hands dirty.

 Red Earth Farm CSA Facts:

The farm offers both Full and Partial Shares that are offered weekly from June 1- November 4. A Full Share will cost members $525 if they pick up on the farm and $575 for shares that are delivered to one of the pick-up locations. Partial Shares are $380 for farm pick-up and $415 if delivered.

  • Full Shares feature 10 items weekly, while Partial Shares feature six. An item can be anything from a large head of lettuce to a pint of sungold cherry tomatoes.
