Keystone Farm, run by Larry Russel and his wife Phylann Nemeth is a haven dedicated to quality farming methods. Russel, a sixth generation farmer, grew up on a dairy and maple syrup farm that had been in business since 1796. After marrying Phylann, the pair began researching alternative farming methods and started Keystone Farm in Bradford County in 1997. Since then, they have provided CSA customers with the best available organic produce and humanely raised meat. Shareholders can pick up at Clark Park Farmers Market in West Philadelphia. The CSA offers Full Shares and Half Shares that can be made vegetarian, as well as options for extra eggs and meat each week. Vegetable options include beets, green beans, pumpkins, squash and tomatoes, depending on the season, and fruits such as apples, blueberries, cherries and grapes.
Keystone Farm CSA Facts:
Full vegetarian and meat shares are $500, Half Shares cost $250.
- Add an extra dozen eggs onto your share each week for $75 and an extra pound of meat for $100.
- Keystone Farm will allow minor substitutions to individual shares, but cannot tailor boxes to fit every member’s needs.
- The farm grows close to 100 varieties of vegetables, fruits and herbs throughout the growing seasons.
- If you anticipate, and there is a week when you’re unable to pick up your share, Keystone Farm will gladly allow a neighbor or friend to pick it up for you. As a last resort you can pre-arrange to pick up a double share the week before.
