This year’s Philagrafica, Philadelphia’s international festival celebrating print in contemporary art, is permeating the city in “dynamic and unexpected ways.” On display at the Moore College of Art and Design is Mundus Admirabilis, which utilizes vinyl and screenprinting on porcelain and embroidery on fabric. The artist, Regina Silveira of Brazil, alludes to the mythology of biblical plagues, while focusing her work on the plagues existing in our own time: degradation of the environment, crime and violence, corruption, etc. The images are astounding—enormous, black insects cover the walls, ceiling and floor, giving the gallery an eerie current of movement.
