Autumn Alchemy: A Woodland Artist Wander

October 27 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Meeting at Historic RittenhouseTown (208 Lincoln Dr, Philadelphia)
Distance: 1 mile
Difficulty Level: Easy/Moderate (some inclines and declines, uneven surfaces)
Audience: Ages 18+
Parking and Transit: If you’re driving, there is parking nearby our meeting area as well as up by the bike cafe, but in the event the lots fill up, you can find parking along the nearby neighborhood streets or at Blue Bell Park rather than parking along Rittenhouse Lane. Note that the lot along Lincoln Drive is the site of regular car break-ins and is not recommended. If taking transit, our location is serviced by Bus 65 (Walnut Lane and Wissahickon Ave) and Chestnut Hill West Regional Rail (Chelten). See map for details.
Restrooms: There should be porta potties available for use at Blue Bell Park.
Join Trail Ambassadors Stan Kozakowski, Jane Klein, Jean McWilliams, and Stephanie Stein for a program that encourages you to slow down and connect with nature, awakening your senses and deepening your bond with Mother Earth.
Autumn lures us in with her spectacular explosion of color. What do you notice—the new sensation of the crisp fall air? The sweet perfume of late summer grasses giving themselves over to the soil? Perhaps she offers a subtle invitation to follow her lead. As the trees shed their leaves, she beckons us to let go of what no longer serves us.

Whether you’re an experienced artist, a beginner, or simply love nature, this program helps you attune to its beauty and complexity. We’ll explore ways to strengthen observational skills and use creative writing to enhance visual art. For those interested, we’ll share how to start a personalized nature journal to capture reflections.
Bring your playful curiosity and a tool(s) of choice—for example, a camera; a writing pen and paper; or your favorite medium (paintbrush, drawing pencils/paper/ kneaded eraser etc.) Pack a hard surface such as a clip board or a book to support your work. And don’t forget to bring something to sit on.
Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain, extreme heat, muddy conditions, or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
