Mushroom Walk

FOR ADULTS AND TEENS AGES 12-17
Discover the hidden world of fungi on Tyler’s trails. Spot mushrooms, bracket fungi, and other fascinating species as they emerge from leaf litter, logs, and soil. Your guides are enthusiastic amateurs, eager to share observations and learn alongside you, focusing on curiosity and exploration rather than expert identification.
Check in with your guides on the Visitor Center patio by 9:30 am.
What to expect:
Guided exploration of fungi in their natural habitats
Use of field guides and iNaturalist for fungi identification
Moderate, 2–3 mile walk on uneven trails through woods and meadows
Close-up observation of mushrooms, molds, and other fungi
Changes in walking surfaces, including pavement, grass, gravel, and rocky trails
Fungi sightings are highly weather-dependent; wet conditions often bring out a wider variety, while dry weather may limit what we find
What to wear & carry:
Hiking boots or shoes with good tread
Hand lens or magnifying glass (optional)
Water and snacks
Hiking poles (optional)
PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED. An adult must accompany all youth.
MEMBERS: FREE
NON-MEMBERS: $18 per adult (18-64); $15 per senior (65+); $10 per teen (12-17). Admission is included in your price, so feel free to stay for the day!
GUEST PASS HOLDERS: (for non-members only): FREE. Please give your guest passes to the Visitor Center Associate at check-in, or inform them that you are accompanying a Family or higher-level member as their guest. This program is free with your guest pass admission, so feel free to stay as long as you’d like after the program!
