Serpentine Barrens Pink Hill Tour

July 18 @ 9:30 am - 10:45 am

For Adults (18+) and Teens ages 15 – 17
Discover Pink Hill: a globally rare serpentine barrens! Join us for a guided hike to Delaware County’s last remaining serpentine barren. Explore its unique geology, rare plants, and fascinating history—from continental collisions to early human activity. In mid-July, we hope to see Philadelphia Wood Lilies in bloom, a bright reddish-orange flower not often seen in our area.
The program begins promptly at 9:30 am. Please arrive on time.
Park at Tyler’s Serpentine Barrens on Barren Road—NOT at the Visitor Center.
Gates open at 9:15 am
Driving directions to the Barrens from Tyler’s main entrance: 
Turn left onto Painter Road.
At the first stop sign, turn right onto Barren Road.
The Serpentine Barrens entrance will be on your right in approximately 1/4 mile.
A guide will be stationed at the entrance to direct you to the parking area.
Park where directed and check in with a Tyler staff member.
What to Expect:
Walking surfaces that include pavement, grass, gravel, and rocky trails
Changes in grade, including short steep hills and stairs
Unshaded, uneven terrain at the serpentine barrens
Unique geological features, rare plants, and sweeping views of grassland
Hike is not suitable for those with limited mobility
What to Wear & Carry:
Hiking boots or shoes with good tread
Bug spray (please apply at home)
Sunblock
Water and snacks
Optional: Hiking poles
PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED
A participating adult must accompany teens.
Members (sign in for your discount!): FREE
Non-members: $18 per adult; $15 per senior; $10 per teen (ages 15-17). The non-member fee includes admission to Tyler for the day, so feel free to stay as long as you’d like!
Guest Pass Holders: (for non-members only): FREE. Please give your guest passes to the Visitor Center Associate at check-in, or inform them that you are accompanying a Family or higher-level member as their guest. This program is free with your guest pass admission, so feel free to stay as long as you’d like after the program!
Library Pass Holders: FREE. Please present your Library Pass to the Visitor Center Associate at check-in for the program. This program is free with your library pass admission, so feel free to stay as long as you’d like after the program!
