Join Trail Ambassadors Doug Gibson, Courtney Malley, Jill Curatolo, and Peter Curatolo for a leisurely, kids centered family-friendly loop hike in the Wissahickon, paced to the age and abilities of participants. Starting at the Mt. Airy Trailhead, we’ll head toward Frog Pond to talk about stormwater management and how frogs survive and thrive year round. We’ll continue along the White Trail to Kitchen’s Lane, with stops to share the history of the mill, bridge, and surrounding landscape.
The hike will also pass through the Monastery grounds, where we’ll see the historic house and barn and learn about the site’s origins. If we are lucky, we will see some of the horses and donkeys that live there. Along the way, children can participate in a nature bingo activity, and we’ll pause to observe mosses, fungi, and plants we encounter.
All children must be accompanied by an adult; no dogs except for service animals, please.
Registration is required for all events so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
