Discovering Native Annuals

Native annuals are rewarding yet often-misunderstood groups of plants in ecological horticulture. In this engaging class, uncover the beauty, versatility, and ecological value of these short-lived garden gems. Explore how native annuals contribute vibrant seasonal color, support specialist pollinators, and fill unique design niches that perennials can’t always reach. Perfect for gardeners, designers, and native plant enthusiasts looking to expand their plant palette and deepen their ecological knowhow.
Learn practical tips for sourcing, growing, and incorporating native annuals into your own landscape for maximum impact. Join instructor Wylie Lapp for an inspiring tour of Mt. Cuba’s gardens, where you will see standout species in action and discover how they can elevate both biodiversity and design. Class price includes native annual seeds.
This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Saturday, June 6, 2026.

About the Instructor:
Wylie Lapp is a horticulturist at Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden in Villanova, PA. Before coming to Stoneleigh, he interned at both the Scott Arboretum and Morris Arboretum. Holding a degree in environmental science from Chestnut Hill College, Wylie strives to combine ecology with all things garden related. When not in the garden his spare time is often spent botanizing from upstate New York, down to the New Jersey Pine Barrens. While he may never be able to choose just one favorite native plant, Wylie is captivated by all things ephemeral, bog, or orchid related.
