Garden Building Volunteer Day

Volunteer to build DelCo’s newest garden.
Join us for a hands-on volunteer day as we build a new garden at the county park in support of our two emerging programs, Grow and Walk Delco and Gardeners Without Borders. Together, we will construct raised garden beds that will serve as both an educational learning garden for community members and a youth-supported market garden producing fresh, locally grown food for the farmers market.
Volunteers will help assemble garden beds and prepare them for planting by filling them with soil and organic amendments—laying the groundwork for a thriving garden ecosystem that will nourish both people and place. This garden is an important step in increasing access to locally grown food in Southeast Delaware County, strengthening regional food systems, and reconnecting communities with the sources of what they eat.
All ages are invited to build the new garden beds!
This volunteer day will be hosted in collaboration with youth participating in the Gardeners Without Borders program, offering an opportunity for intergenerational learning and shared stewardship. Together, we are planting more than seeds—we are cultivating connection, care for the land, and pathways to long-term community wellness.
Beyond food production, the creation of an organic garden contributes to the health of our shared watershed. Healthy soil supports water absorption, reduces runoff, and helps restore ecological balance in our local environment. Just as importantly, time spent outdoors—touching soil, breathing fresh air, and working alongside neighbors—has meaningful benefits for physical health, mental wellbeing, and a sense of belonging.
Through this volunteer project, we will all act as environmental and community stewards, tending to the soil that nourishes the natural world and our place in it.
Refreshments provided.
BYOB…water bottle that is!
In being good stewards of our planet, we will not be providing individual plastic water bottles, although water will be available.
If you don’t have water bottles, we will have Black Girls With Green Thumbs water bottles available for sale.
