Opening Reception | Art in City Hall: Black History Month Exhibitions

Join us for the opening of two Black History Month exhibitions: “My Skin is Black” and “Counter Narratives” on view through April 24!

Creative Philadelphia and Councilmember Nicolas O’Rourke are proud to present two new Art in City Hall exhibitions celebrating Black History Month. Join us for light refreshments and remarks during a special opening reception on February 20, 5-7 p.m.

My Skin is Black, curated by Debra Powell-Wright, features19 Black women artists working in the mixed media fiber arts whose artwork focus on first-person narratives.

Counter Narratives – Resistance and Resilience, organized by the Sankofa Artisans Guild, features 24 members of the collective whose artworks feature Black founding ancestors, pathfinders, and activists.

Art in City Hall’s Black History Month exhibitions are on on view in Creative Philadelphia’s gallery (City Hall Room 116) and on the first, second, and fourth floor cooridors, northeast corner through April 24, 2026.

Please arrive early to go through security. Enter through the Northeast Corner Visitor’s Entrance of City Hall.
