Winter Solstice in the Wissahickon with Melinda Spink and Melvin Chappell

December 21 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Meeting at Houston Playground (see map here)
There is plenty of free street parking nearby.
Please note that there will not be bathrooms available along our route.
Join us on Sunday, December 21 at 10:00 AM for a guided hike through Houston Meadow, as we welcome the turning of the seasons from autumn to winter. The winter solstice marks the day of the shortest amount of daylight and officially arrives shortly after we start our hike.
We’ll walk the trails, taking in the first hints of winter—bare tree branches, splashes of evergreen and ferns, and the crisp scent of stillness in the air. Along the way, we’ll share fascinating facts and lore about the solstice and its significance across cultures.
Come celebrate nature’s balance and the beauty of the change in seasons.
Distance: 2.5 miles
Level: Moderate (some inclines and declines, uneven surfaces)
Audience: All Ages
Registration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.
Unless otherwise specified, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.
