An exciting walking tour through Philadelphia’s Black medical history—visit sites of body snatching, almshouses, and Black hospitals.
This exciting and immersive walking tour traces the rich yet complex legacy of Black medicine in Philadelphia. From early Black physicians and nurses who established care under segregation, to disturbing chapters like the Holmesburg Prison experiments and the MOVE remains, this experience offers both celebration and confrontation. Along the way, visit the sites of almshouses, former Black hospitals, and even locations where body snatching occurred for medical research. Healing Legacies invites you to reflect on injustice, resilience, and the ongoing fight for health equity.
