Philly History Pop Ups! Corinthian Gardens summer series

August 16, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join in for a casual outdoor setting, intriguing content and a fun way to learn more about the city.
Best for curious Philadelphians!

PHILLY HISTORY POP UPS are free, entertaining presentations on intriguing but little-known Philly stories connected to people, places or historic events. Each topic is tied to something you can see today, as well.

SUMMER SCHEDULE:

1) Thursday, July 20, 6-7pm. (Rain date Fri., July 21)

NEW Topic: Lafayette! It’s a name we know–the Marquis de Lafayette–but his impact on the formation of our country, and even our perception of it, holds layers of surprise and inspiration.

2) Wednesday, August 2, 6-7pm (Rain date Thurs., Aug. 3)

Topic: “Interesting Twists on Places You Know.” Even those who know Philly well may be surprised at some of the lesser-known stories hiding inside our historic sites and attractions. See what you know, and what you can discover. Includes some interactive game formats.

3) Wednesday, August 16, 6-7pm (Rain date Thurs., Aug. 17)

Topic (Repeated from July): Lafayette! It’s a name we know–the Marquis de Lafayette–but his impact on the formation of our country, and even our perception of it, holds layers of surprise and inspiration.

4) Wednesday, August 30, 6-7pm (Rain date Thurs., Aug. 31)

Topic: Hear the tales of one of the weirdest, most over-the-top events in Philadelphia history–a massive, medieval style party that happened in South Philly during the Revolutionary War. A/k/a, the Mischianza!

LOCATION: The Brown Street picnic tables in Corinthian Gardens. Enter on Brown Street near Corinthian Ave. The garden is outside the wall of Eastern State Penitentiary.

PHILLY HISTORY POP UPS LEADER, Cara Schneider Bongiorno, is a born-and-bred Philadelphian who represented Philadelphia to national media for more than 20 years. She’s still smitten with Philly–and with sharing her knowledge about it in an intriguing way.
