Painting with Pokeweed

August 19, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

included-with-admission

Take the morning to celebrate native plants through a hands-on, ethnobotanical, foraging, and artistic experience. After a hayride through our natural lands, learn about the relationships Indigenous communities have with pokeweed, find out how to mindfully forage and gather pokeweed, make pèkòn (Lenape for red dye) with the berries, and create watercolor paintings with your homemade pèkòn.

Painting with Pokeweed is a partnership between Mt. Cuba and Native Roots Farm Foundation (NRFF), and part of NRFF’s summer series, “The Beauty Around Us.”

This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba on Saturday, August 19, 2023 (rain date: Sunday, August 20, 2023).

This program is free with general admission to Mt. Cuba, but pre-registration is required. Children must be 8 or older to participate. Closed-toe shoes are required.

About the Instructor:

Courtney Streett (Nanticoke), co-founded Native Roots Farm Foundation (NRFF) in 2020 and serves as the organization’s President/Executive Director. She uses her knowledge of Indigenous practices, horticultural expertise, and training as a journalist to lead and facilitate NRFF’s programming.
