BioBlitz Hike at Penn Treaty Park — City Nature Challenge
April 30, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us for a bioblitz at Penn Treaty Park for the 2023 City Nature Challenge.
We’ll meet near the parking lot and review how to use iNaturalist. After everyone feels confident in their ability to use the app, we will begin exploring the park and creating observations of our findings. We will share tips for making observations of organisms in many categories including insects, plants, mushrooms, and animals.
This event is part of the Philadelphia City Nature Challenge. Uploading observations to iNaturalist is strongly encouraged.
The City Nature Challenge (CNC) is a 4-day bioblitz where cities around the world compete and collaborate to see who can record the most wildlife. Winners are ranked by the total number of observations, the number of species, and the total number of people making observations. Besides being a fun challenge, this is also a great way to engage people in community science and help document the biodiversity of our urban areas. The 2023 CNC will take place between April 28th – May 1st. The challenge area includes Philadelphia and the 6 surrounding counties including Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware in Pennsylvania and Camden, Gloucester, and Burlington counties in New Jersey.
Registration is limited for this event. Please only register if you feel sure you will come and please cancel your ticket if you are no longer coming.
This event will be cancelled or rescheduled if the weather is inclement, including high wind speeds or temperatures below freezing.
Please dress appropriately for outdoor activities including supportive footwear, jackets, insect repellant, and anything else you may need to support your health and safety on the trail.
This event and others like it are free for everyone. If you are able, please support our mission by making a donation to our paypal. https://www.paypal.com/donate?token=CxhZmGJ1YRtnxzRqeE6jjzyJ6krKdEQkYV2xgVw8LXP5q-AZzNeQ8fxplxMaM8r7hr-KOEHmtELOemvU
