The vegan impulse has motivated groups and movements throughout human history, and it intersects with both the development of social reform and with influential individuals such as Benjamin Franklin, Emmanuel Swedenborg, Louisa May Alcott, Clara Barton, Hypatia, Gandhi, Socrates and Jesus.
