Uhuru MLK Day Philly 2023

Join us for Uhuru Furniture’s 26th Annual MLK Day Event with Film Screening and Outdoor Volunteer Project

A Project of the African People’s Education and Defense Fund (APEDF). Build black community economic self-reliance and carry on the movement for African self-determination!

Program Schedule:

10-11:30am

  • Watch historic films of MLK, Malcolm X, Civil Rights and Black Power Movements
  • Videos and presentation on the work of APEDF and the movement for African self-determination today. Live drums and spoken word with Karen Smith & Rahnda Rize

11:30am-2:30pm

  • Volunteer Project – outdoor postering and door hanging to spread the word about Uhuru Furniture and APEDF

2:30-3pm

  • Pizza and vegan lunch for volunteers

This MLK Day YOU can carry on the legacy of MLK by supporting black-led self-reliance projects of the African People’s Education and Defense Fund!

APEDF works to end the disparities the African community faces in every aspect of life: health, housing, poverty, food, education and employment.

APEDF leads over 50 programs including a farmers market, a women’s health center and doula training, a community basketball court and job training, to build economic development and defend the human and civil rights of the African community.
