DESCRIPTION:Sewing intrigues you but you don’t know where to start… Come learn about the basics of sewing in an inspiring and friendly atmosphere.\n\n\nIf only you could hem your own pants\, mend your torn clothes\, and reattach that button that fell off! This upcycling trend seems cool and you want to hop on board\, but where do you even start? Thanks to the Reagan administration gutting home economics programs in favor of STEM to compete with Russia during the Cold War\, most Millenials and Gen Zer’s never learned how to sew in school. \nIn this 2-hour class\, professional tailor and fashion designer Ruby Gertz will cover sewing basics from the ground up. You need ZERO experience to take this class! We will cover hand and machine sewing basics\, as well as how to choose a first project that can help you take your skills to the next level. \nRuby has over a decade of sewing teaching experience and has worked with children and adult students at all sewing levels\, from absolute beginners to fashion students deep in the thick of developing thesis collections for their BFAs. She is a friendly and patient teacher and excels at passing her love of sewing on to others. \nIn the class\, students will create a pin cushion that they can take home and use to store pins and needles. \nThis workshop is open to students ages 18+.
