SUMMARY:Lights Out Philly
DESCRIPTION:Why Lights Out\n\n\nEach year\, tens of million birds pass through Philadelphia during the spring and fall migration. Unfortunately\, many are killed when they fly into buildings\, confused by artificial lights at night or by reflective or transparent glass surfaces. Artificial lights at night can attract birds migrating at night to buildings and ultimately cause them to collide with other parts of the buildings associated with the lights. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is Lights Out\n\n\nLights Out is a voluntary program that involves turning off and/or blocking as many external and internal building lights as possible at night\, when bird migration is occurring during the spring and fall. \n\nFAQs for Property Managers\n\n\n\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\n\n\nWhat is Lights Out? What is involved in the program? How do I participate? Learn more through our FAQs. \n\nGeneral FAQs\n\nLights Out Philly Fact Sheet\n\n\nDownload the fact sheet and learn more about “Lights Out Philly”\, scheduled for April 1- May 31 and August 15 – November 15 this year. Turn off lights from midnight to 6am and help save birds and money. \n\nLights Out Philly Fact Sheet\n\nParticipate in Lights Out Philly\n\n\nWhether you are a building owner\, tenant\, business\, or resident\, you can join us in helping to prevent night-time bird collisions during the months many are migrating. SUMMARY:Self Care Sundays
DESCRIPTION:Black Lotus Holistic Health Collective presents Self Care Sundays with meditation and yoga classes.\n\n\nWelcome to Self Care Sundays! Join us on Sundays at 11:00 AM for some time dedicated to self-care and relaxation. This event will take place at Black Lotus HHC at 206 Rittenhousetown Lane\, where you can unwind and focus on yourself. \nTake part in yoga sessions\, meditation exercises\, and mindfulness activities to rejuvenate your mind and body. Treat yourself to healthy snacks and refreshments while connecting with like-minded individuals. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to prioritize your well-being and practice self-love. See you there! \n\n\n\n\nMore about Black Lotus HHC \n \nBlack Lotus Holistic Healing Collective is known for is a space designed for BIPOC healers/practitioners to be centered in the healing in order for them to heal those in the BIPOC community. Vibrational healing is the ancient art of healing with sound; it traces back to ancient Egypt & Tibet. Sound vibrations can heal the physical body at a cellular level by adjusting blockages and imbalances. These imbalances can cause the body to have a slower frequency vibration which may lead to dis-ease or illnesses. Natural healing sound frequencies can be transferred or introduced externally or directly into the body to create a more harmonious state. \nAt Black Lotus\, we combine the use of crystal chakra singing bowls\, gongs\, tuning forks\, and more to give a relaxing & transformative experience. We can balance chakras\, repair auras\, uplift the mood or help with grounding. Vibrational healing is a great tool for meditation\, alleviating stress\, and relaxing stiff or sore muscles. \nFor more visit: www.diasporaeducationalservices.org/black-lotus \nhttps://linktr.ee/blacklotushhc \n\n\n\nDIRECTIONS: \n \nBlack Lotus is not on Lincoln Drive despite the address…it is actually on Rittenhousetown Lane. SUMMARY:Firefly Hours: Fiber Arts at Allens Lane - Nature-Inspired Surface Design
DESCRIPTION:This all-ages\, activity encourages observation\, experimentation\, and play with natural forms.\n\n\nInspired by the renewed season of gathering and the quiet magic of early evening\, these relaxed\, all-ages workshops celebrate small acts of making\, connection\, and shared light—like fireflies flickering across the lawn. Participants are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and settle in for gentle\, hands-on fiber activities that build across the three evenings. As part of Historic Germantown’s neighborhood Firefly Hours initiative\, Allens Lane Art Center invites the community to gather outdoors at dusk for a three-evening spring fiber arts series. \nAs the evening light softens\, participants will explore creative ways to capture the textures\, shapes\, and patterns of the park – trees\, plants\, stones and more. Using simple techniques such as stenciling\, leaf rubbings\, or fabric imprints\, everyone can create unique designs on fabric. This all-ages\, activity encourages observation\, experimentation\, and play with natural forms. Fabric pieces created during this session can be brought back to incorporate in the following workshops.

SUMMARY:Enduring Hostility: A Book Talk on the Making of America's Iran Policy
DESCRIPTION:A book talk with Dalia Dassa Kaye\n\n\nNearly fifty years after the Iranian Revolution and creation of the Islamic Republic\, tensions remain high between the United States and Iran\, culminating in a U.S.- and Israeli-led war in Iran. Dalia Dassa Kaye’s timely new book\, Enduring Hostilities\, examines the roots of hostilities between the two countries and how U.S. policy over the past four decades has been shaped not only by differing ideologies between the two countries\, but also by U.S. political perceptions at various points in time. Join Penn’s Middle East Center and Perry World House for an in-depth\, thoughtful discussion on the U.S.-Iran relationship\, the current state of the conflict between the two countries\, and what lessons should be gleaned from nearly four decades of enduring hostilities. \nPanelist\nDr. Dalia Dassa Kaye is a senior fellow at the UCLA Burkle Center for International Relations and director of its Initiative on Regional Security Architectures. A life member of the Council on Foreign Relations\, Dalia is an internationally recognized expert on geopolitics and Middle East policy. During her fifteen years at the RAND Corporation\, Dalia served as a senior political scientist and the director of the Center of Middle East Public Policy. \nShe has received numerous awards and held previous positions at an array of research and public policy institutions\, including as a Fulbright Schuman visiting scholar at Lund University\, a fellow at the Wilson Center\, an advisor at the Foreign Ministry of The Netherlands\, an assistant professor of political science and international affairs at the George Washington University\, a research fellow at the Brookings Institution\, and a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill. \nShe is a frequent public speaker and contributor to leading media outlets\, including BBC\, CNN\, NPR\, PBS\, and Foreign Affairs. She is the author of dozens of articles and policy reports\, as well as three books\, including most recently Enduring Hostility: The Making of America’s Iran Policy (Stanford University Press\, 2026). \nDalia holds her BA\, MA\, and PhD in political science from the University of California\, Berkeley. \nModerator\nMarie Harf comes to Penn with two decades of varied experience in the U.S. federal government\, higher education\, media\, and politics. Previously she worked as senior advisor for strategic communications to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and deputy spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State\, as the foreign policy director on Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign\, and as a Middle East analyst and spokesperson at the Central Intelligence Agency. She has also held senior roles at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and for Congressman Seth Moulton’s political organization. Since 2017\, Harf has been an on-air commentator for Fox News.
