SUMMARY:Hike and Book Discussion: Winter Edition with Lisa Kleiman\, Jean McWilliams\, and Pat Jacona
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Northwestern Avenue and Forbidden Drive (see map here)\nThere is nearby parking at the Northwestern Avenue Parking Area.\nPlease note that there will not be porta potties available at Northwestern since they’ve been removed for the winter.\nLove reading? Love hiking? Love chatting about books with other hikers? Join us for an afternoon hike and book discussion! Let’s celebrate the season—read a book/poem/short story/essay focused on snow or winter. You can find a list of books on Amazon or try some of the following suggestions:\nSnow Falling on Cedars – David Guterson\nThe Snow Queen – Hans Christian Andersen\nWinter Garden – Kristin Hannah\nA Place called Winter – Patrick Gale\nWinter – Ali Smith\nRun – Ann Patchett\nThe Snow Hare – Paula Lichtarowicz\nHow to Winter – Kari Leibowitz\nWe will walk on both Forbidden Drive and the wooded trails around Andorra/Houston Meadows during this 4- 5 mile hike. If you can’t get to (or finish) a book\, come anyway! You might get a few good book recommendations\, and you will always have a chat with other FOW hikers. We will meet at the corner of Northwestern Ave and Forbidden Drive. Dress in layers for the weather and bring along water and snacks as needed. The walk will be at a moderate pace and there will be some hills.\nDistance: 4.5 miles\nLevel: Moderate (some inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nAudience: 18 years old and up\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.\nPhoto: Rachael Balascak\nRegister below!
