SUMMARY:Winter Wanderings with Jane Klein\, Jean McWilliams\, Stephanie Stein\, and Stan Kozakowski
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Wissahickon Environmental Center (see map here)\nThe center is a short hike down from the Andorra Upper Parking Lot.\nPlease note that there will be a bathroom available at WEC.\nWinter beckons us to experience her unadorned beauty. What do you notice—the cold against your skin\, the stately bare trees in stark contrast to the sky? Or perhaps how the birdsong sounds different now than in the spring? Want to become more intentional with your observations? This program encourages you to slow down and connect with nature\, awakening your senses and deepening your bond with Mother Earth.\nWe’ll have fun noticing small\, delightful natural details. Whether you’re an experienced artist\, a beginner\, or simply love nature\, this program helps you attune to its beauty and complexity. We’ll explore ways to strengthen observational skills and use creative writing to enhance visual art. For those interested\, we’ll share how to start a personalized nature journal to capture reflections.\nBring your playful curiosity and a tool(s) of choice—for example\, a camera; a writing pen and paper; or your favorite medium (paintbrush\, drawing pencils/paper/ kneaded eraser etc.) Pack a hard surface such as a clip board or a book to support your work. And don’t forget to bring something to sit on.\nWe will take a short hike and return back to the Environmental Center. Depending on the weather we will either sit around a fire or go inside to enjoy our creative time together.\n“When we see with clear eyes\, we know that we are surrounded by beauty. Let yourself fall in love with your life by paying attention.” – John Muir Laws\nDistance: 1 mile\nLevel: Moderate (some inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nAudience: 18 years old and up\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.\nRegister below!
