SUMMARY:Autumn Ramble in Wissahickon Valley Park with Stan Kozakowski and Michael Bridges
DESCRIPTION:Photo courtesy of Stan Kozakowski\nMeeting at Wigard Avenue Trailhead (see map here)\nThere is plenty of free parking along near the trailhead.\nThere will not be bathrooms available along our route.\nStep into the golden hush of early November on a 3-hour guided hike through Philadelphia’s breathtaking Wissahickon Valley Park. As crisp leaves crunch underfoot and amber light filters through bare-branched trees\, this seasonal stroll winds along scenic trails\, beside whispering creeks and moss-covered stone bridges. Connect with both nature and kindred spirits—whether old friends or new companions—as you share stories and silences alike beneath a canopy of fading fall color. With pauses to admire hidden vistas\, ancient trees\, and perhaps even a deer in the distance\, this ramble is as much about the journey as the destination.\nBring sturdy shoes\, warm layers\, and an open heart. This is autumn at its most soul-nourishing.\nDistance: 3.5 miles\nLevel: Difficult (many inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nAudience: 12 years old and up\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations.\nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org. Visit www.fow.org for updates.\nRegister below!

SUMMARY:Roxborough Trail Work
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Wigard Avenue Trailhead (see map here)\nThere is plenty of parking in the lot by the trailhead.\nPlease note there may not be bathroom access during this service day.\nDid you know we have over 50 miles of trails weaving their way through Wissahickon Valley Park? It takes a lot of work to keep them in good shape for our many park user groups! Our trained Crew Leaders are the primary corps of volunteers to look after them\, working together in small groups of Zone Stewards in different sections of the park. This Saturday\, we’re bringing extra volunteer support to Roxborough to help tend to a variety of projects.\nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities:\n• Trail work: carrying and using long-handled tools\, moving and placing large rocks\, cutting back overgrowth\n• Invasive plant removal: bending over\, using sharp tools\n• Litter clean-up\n• Repetitive motions\nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants\, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email the day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people\, please reach out to us first. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.\nRegister Below!

DESCRIPTION:Photo courtesy of Brad Maule\nMeeting at Wigard Avenue Trailhead\nHiking Rim to Rim in Wissahickon Valley Park may not offer the same ‘bragging rights’ as a rim to rim hike of the Grand Canyon\, but it will surely provide you with beautiful scenery\, a rewarding hike on both sides of Wissahickon Creek\, wonderful views\, and friendly folks to enjoy it with!\nCome join us as we hike along the Yellow Trail from Wigard Avenue on the west side of the Valley\, across Wissahickon Creek and up Cresheim Valley on the east side. Sights along the way include a hidden cave\, a frog pond\, historic structures\, movie filming locations\, and a beautiful pine grove. We may even get lucky and see some spring ephemerals!\nPlease note that the terrain is hilly with rocks and roots\, and in the event of steady rain\, snow\, or hazardous driving conditions\, we’ll reschedule.\nDistance: 5.5-6.5 miles\nLevel: Difficult (many inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. \nUnless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery.
