DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Wayne Avenue Trailhead (W Sedgwick Street & Wayne Avenue)\nParking: There is street parking available all along W Sedgwick Street. See map for details.\nBathrooms: There will not be restrooms available.\nWould you like to take part in keeping Wissahickon Valley Park beautiful and sustainable? Then volunteer with us on this Saturday in partnership with the Friends of Carpenter’s Woods! This relatively small section of the Wissahickon\, while frequented amongst West Mt. Airy neighbors\, is not widely-known to many regular visitors of the Park. We’ll be completing a variety of stewardship tasks in the area.\nAll are welcome to attend\, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level\, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said\, this service day may include the following activities:\n• Trail work: using long-handled tools for scraping\, digging\, tamping\, and cutting; moving heavy objects\n• Invasive plant removal: bending over\, using long handled tools for cutting vines\n• Litter clean-up\nWe provide gloves\, tools\, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants\, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email one business day before the event. SUMMARY:Earth Day Community Connection Hike with Hike+Heal
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Wayne Avenue Trailhead (W Sedgwick Street and Wayne Avenue)\nJoin Hike+Heal and Friends of the Wissahickon for a special Earth Day evening walk celebrating our shared connection to nature and one another. As the day winds down\, we’ll let our curiosity guide our way through Carpenter’s Woods as we reflect on how we can care for the earth beneath our feet.\nWe’ll be using a few tools to help us understand our environment better! All are optional\, but feel free to bring binoculars\, your favorite plant field guide\, and download the iNaturalist app here ahead of the hike.\nLed by Brandi Aulston and her organization\, Hike+Heal\, this family-friendly evening hike invites community members and their loved ones to come together in appreciation of our local green spaces. Moving at a relaxed pace\, we’ll practice grounding exercises\, share moments of reflection\, and take in the evening beauty of the Wissahickon.\nBring your friends\, family\, and neighbors—all are welcome as we celebrate Earth Day in community.\nParking: There should be plenty of free street parking along West Sedgwick Street.
