SUMMARY:Manayunk Canal Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a cleanup on land and on water as we prepare for the opening of Flat Rock Dam.\n\n\nCome clean up the Manayunk Canal and towpath ahead of the Flat Rock Dam opening. This dam will divert water from the Schuylkill River back into the canal to improve water quality in our region. \nOur work will help preserve the health and beauty of the Manayunk Canal\, Schuylkill River\, and surrounding green areas before the dam opens. Volunteers will remove debris from the canal using canoes as well as on foot down the tow path\, which gets burdened with trash during the summer months. \nJoin our cleanup crew for a chance to win a United by Blue backpack made out of recycled plastic and stick around for an afterparty with food and drinks for volunteers. Environmental non-profits from the Philly area will be tabling to show how you can get more involved in their amazing efforts. Kids are more than welcome to attend! \nAll cleanup gear (gloves\, pickers\, buckets\, & trash bags) will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own gloves if preferred. Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes\, and don’t forget sun protection and rain gear (just in case! ☔️). Lastly\, be sure to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. 💧A water cooler will be available for refills. \n \nJoin us for free drinks and small bites at Manayunk Brew Pub as we celebrate all of our hard work by soaking up some sun on their deck overlooking the river.
