SUMMARY:Discover the Wissahickon: Orange Trail Outing
DESCRIPTION:Meeting at Valley Green Inn (view location on Google Maps)\nOur Discover the Wissahickon hike series is presented by Newrez.\nJoin Trail Ambassadors Sheryl Rose\, Andrea DeSabto\, and Doug Gibson on a hike along Orange Trail and Forbidden Drive. Along the way\, we’ll pass some of the Park’s most iconic landmarks\, including Devil’s Pool\, Glen Fern House\, Fingerspan Bridge\, and several WPA structures. This moderately difficult hike includes a large staircase\, a rocky stream crossing\, and several narrow sections of trail where steady footing is a must.\nCheck out a preview of our hike on Komoot below!  \nParking and Transit: If you’re driving\, there are several parking options near the Inn. The northern parking lot can be accessed by Wises Mill Road from the Roxborough side of the park\, and the southern by Valley Green Road from the Chestnut Hill side. Overflow parking is in the Upper Lot on Valley Green Road. If taking public transit\, you can take the 27 bus to Henry Ave & Wigard Ave and hike about 20 minutes down to our meeting location. See map for details.\nBathrooms: There are outdoor restrooms by Valley Green Inn.\nRegistration is required for all hikes so that participants can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified\, Trail Ambassador Walks may be on rocky\, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain\, extreme heat\, muddy conditions\, or icy conditions. Service animals are always welcome. DESCRIPTION:In person at the Valley Green Inn or online on Zoom\nMany a gardener\, flower lover\, or backyard farmer hates that most dreaded of garden chores: getting rid of weeds. Tama Matsuoka Wong offers a new approach to many plants deemed undesirable: manage them\, turn them into delicious food\, teas\, structures….in other words reap their abundance. A self-described “failed” gardener turned garden contrarian\, she looks to cues as to what plants grow wild naturally in situ\, and\, besides that\, sells many pounds of invasive weeds to markets and chefs. On a more personal level\, she will share with you the “why” of her latest book “Into the Weeds:” why weeds sit at the juncture of our food\, environment and health\, and how to use the most common weeds that grow around you.\nTama Matsuoka Wong is a forager\, weed eater\, wild farmer\, and meadow doctor.
