Whether it comes from personal experiences or a general fascination\, Sean Christopher\, Dominique Samarco\, and David Herman Jr. use their artist tools to expose the most vulnerable within our communities that tend to be ignored. Three Different Types of Mark Making hopes to open honest conversations\, encourage self reflection\, and make you look at things in a way you may not have to in day-to-day life. \n \nSean Christopher’s Statement: \nBlack Bodies uses watercolor to explore identity\, visibility\, and freedom. The medium reflects vulnerability and strength through its fluidity and transparency. Black Bodies celebrates and honors the emotional and historical weight the body carries. This series welcomes a space for dialogue\, reflection\, and healing\, transforming personal experience into collective understanding. \n \nDominique Samarco’s Statement: \nDreams project utopian futures. As educators\, we hold the responsibility to inspire students. I use Philadelphia to map out profound love alongside systemic instability. Through currere\, I retrace my working-class roots to analyze larger issues\, translating memory and emotion into a visual language that examines who I was\, am\, and am becoming. \n \nDavid Herman Jr.’s Statement: \nPhotography studies fields of attention. I investigate how perception emerges through color\, form\, materiality\, and the built environment. I seek to understand how bodies know themselves in relation to the world. What is often encountered as everyday background continually shapes movement\, feeling\, orientation\, and meaning. I explore how the world continually participates in the formation of perception and experience. \n \nJoin the opening of Three Different Types of Mark Making to see three artists’ interpretations  of art. The opening will be on August 21st\, 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM and held in the Kiosk Gallery at Utility Works (32 E Baltimore Ave\, Lansdowne\, PA 19050). See you then! \n \nAbout the Gallery\nThis exhibition is organized by the Lansdowne Art Committee\, a volunteer group of The Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation. The mission of the Lansdowne Arts Committee is to create\, foster\, and promote Lansdowne’s identity as a vibrant and inspiring artistic community. The Lansdowne Art Committee is dedicated to nurturing creative expression\, enhancing community engagement\, stimulating economic growth\, preserving and celebrating Lansdowne’s diversity\, and cultivating arts education and access. \nThe Kiosk Gallery is located in the front Lobby of Utility Works\, a creative co-working space in Lansdowne PA*. Originally home to Delaware County Electric and built in the early 20th century\, Utility Works* has been transformed into a creative co-working building that houses 23 art studios\, a ceramics studio as well as a Maker Space. \nParking: There is a municipal lot behind Dunkin’ Donuts that is available to the public\, as well as additional street parking along Baltimore Ave and Highland Ave. \nGallery Accessibility \nInclusive Design: Our first floor is designed to be inclusive and ensure accessibility for all. \nApproachable Entrance: Our front door on Baltimore Ave. (look for the gold doors) is an accessible entrance. This hands-on mending workshop is designed for anyone who wants to extend the life of their clothing while learning foundational sewing techniques. \nParticipants are encouraged to bring one or two garments in need of repair. We’ll begin with a sewing machine demonstration covering machine setup\, threading\, and straight stitching\, followed by guided practice to help everyone become comfortable using the equipment. \nAfter introductions\, each participant will have the opportunity to share what they brought and the story behind it. SUMMARY:Youth Sewing Workshop for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Over four weeks\, young makers will learn sewing machine basics\, pattern reading\, fabric construction\, and garment assembly.\n\n\nReady to learn how to sew? This beginner-friendly workshop is designed for young makers who want to build confidence with a sewing machine while creating fun\, wearable projects. \nThroughout this four-week course\, students will be introduced to essential sewing skills\, including machine setup and safety\, stitching techniques\, pattern tracing\, fabric cutting\, and garment construction. Participants will practice sewing fundamentals through guided exercises before applying their new skills to real projects. \nWhat Students Will Learn\n\nSewing machine parts\, functions\, and proper setup\nStraight stitching\, curves\, and sewing techniques\nPattern tracing and construction basics\nFabric cutting and preparation\nGarment assembly and finishing methods\n\nProjects\nStudents will create: \n\nA small circular pillow to practice foundational sewing skills\nA reversible tulip hat designed and constructed from start to finish\n\nNo prior sewing experience is required. This course is perfect for curious beginners who enjoy making things with their hands and want to learn a valuable lifelong skill in a supportive\, creative environment. \nBy the end of the workshop\, students will have a strong foundation in sewing and the confidence to continue exploring textile and fashion projects on their own. \n \nAges:\nRecommended for ages 10+. DESCRIPTION:Tunnels of darkness illuminate vessels with light in Shatter the dark: a light at the end of the tunnel.\n\n\nReception: July 10th 6pm – 8pm \nOn View: July 10th\, 2026 – August 15th\, 2026 \nArtist (s): Joe Grubb \nLocation: Kiosk Gallery at Utility Works (32 E Baltimore Ave) \nGallery Hours: Wednesday – Saturday\, noon – 6pm \n \nI started making lamps with black sculpture clay and quickly realized black clay does not transfer or reflect light. A friend suggested white porcelain\, which catches light and transfers it wonderfully. I hung a black lamp over a porcelain vessel and found emotional resonance with the combination. \n \nI am a shining vessel unaware of the source of my own light. \n \nI am a dark vessel of heat illuminating a cold\, remote object. \n \nGaze into the tunnel of darkness.  \nSee the light as it escapes you.  \nFeel the cracks in the foundation of your self-awareness. \n \nAbout the Artists: \nMy artistic life is a mining operation of faulty memories in dark tunnels of someone else’s creation. Sifting through the detritus of decades of the delirium of trauma\, substance abuse and mental illness for the resonant shards of reality and unreality that can be distilled into an object that I can hold against my face and say “this\, THIS is real. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Lansdowne Roots at the Kiosk Gallery\n\n\nLansdowne Roots is an exhibition by local artists Rob Cuff and Alexandra Langendorfer\, whose work reflects a shared history rooted in the Lansdowne\, PA community. \nBoth artists grew up just a few blocks apart\, attended Lansdowne public schools\, and began their creative journeys here. Their representational work responds to a lifetime of living in and around this place\, playing with how streets\, homes\, people\, and quiet moments shape a sense of belonging.
