SUMMARY:Art Workshop with Harvested Natural Materials
DESCRIPTION:Harvest natural materials to make collaborative artwork with artist Sarah Kavage. Sarah Kavage is a Seattle-based artist who creates large-scale public art projects that call attention to ecological processes and human relationships with place.\nIn 2021\, Kavage and Yaroub Al Obaidi collaborated on Al Mudhif – A Confluence at the Schuylkill Center\, bringing community members together to build a traditional Iraqi Mudhif from locally harvested Phragmites. She returns this year to collaborate with choreographer Silvana Cardell on sculptural set pieces for TERRA: Bodies and Territories\, an immersive dance performance that premieres at the Schuylkill Center in June. Workshop participants will use natural materials to create artwork related to TERRA.\nRegistration is required in advance for this free program. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. No previous art-making experience required.\nRegister\nAbout Sarah Kavage\nPhoto: Tina Plokarz\nSarah Kavage is a Seattle based visual artist and cultural organizer who creates public projects that call attention to ecological processes and human relationships with place. Made from simple natural materials\, her work is largely ephemeral and brings function\, tradition\, and craft into a dialogue about public space and social engagement.\nShe has created ephemeral public artwork around the country\, making work along and about the Duwamish River\, Seattle’s only river\, for nearly two decades. From 2018-2021 she served as a lead artist for Lenapehoking~Watershed\, an ambitious multi-site project about the Delaware River Watershed. She is a recipient of the Anonymous Was a Woman Environmental Art Grant\, the Robert B MacMillen Foundation Artist Fellowship\, and grants from the City of Seattle\, 4Culture\, and ArtPlace America\, among others. She holds a BFA from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Masters’ Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Washington.\nMajor support for TERRA has been provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage\, with additional support from Georgian Court University\, and the 2025 Creative Sector Flex Fund\, a program by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Walk-ins welcome!\n \nSign Up\n \nAbout (In)visible Structures\n(In)visible Structures is a solo exhibition of paintings by Rebecca Rutstein. Working at the intersection of art and science\, Rutstein’s artistic practice visualizes environmental processes that connect and sustain all life on earth despite being invisible to the naked eye. This exhibition draws from Rutstein’s established body of works inspired by oceanic voyages with scientists\, presenting her Kama’ehuakanaloa Series painted at sea during an expedition off the coast of Hawaii in 2023. Rutstein also presents two new paintings signaling her current artistic explorations: Brine Forest (2025) is a mesmerizing composition based on Rutstein’s artistic research with scientists studying the microscopic activity within salt channels in Arctic sea ice. Shape Shifter (2025) pulsates with a network of interconnected abstract patterns inspired by underground fungal networks that enable trees to communicate and are integral to the forest ecosystem. DESCRIPTION:Even nature needs a little spring cleaning! On Saturday\, March 29th from 10am-12pm\, join us for our annual Community Cleanup Day. We will be working along the roadside to pick up trash\, clear fallen branches\, and do some general tidying for the spring season. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.\nSign Up\nWhat to Bring\nGloves\, bags\, and tools will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring your own! Dress for the weather and pack a water bottle.\nMeeting Place\nMeet us at the corner of Hagy’s Mill Road and Port Royal Ave at 10 a.m. Look for our Schuylkill Center white welcome tent where our staff will meet you to share tools and instructions for cleaning up. Volunteers can park in our Hagy’s Mill Road lot\, or towards the Roxborough Reservoir Parking Area.\nGroups and Walk-Ins\nGroups and walk-ins welcome\, however registration is recommended for staying in the loop about any changes in plans due to weather.
