DESCRIPTION:Lead artist Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz & costume designer Kristina Tollefson will discuss the production process of their upcoming project.\n\n\nOn Thursday\, August 6\, join us for “Collaborative Stitches: The Making of Vámonos Pa’l Monte\,” with the creative team behind this Mural Arts project: lead artist Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz and costume and production designer Kristina Tollefson. \nThe artists will discuss the planning and considerations that go into producing their creative collaborations\, with a deep behind-the-scenes dive on Vámonos Pa’l Monte\, a public art and engagement project culminating this fall in Philadelphia’s Norris Square neighborhood and throughout the city. Her work has been featured in venues such as The Momentary\, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery\, National Museum of Women in the Arts\, Museum of Arts and Design\, and Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico\, among many others\, and her work has been covered numerous media outlets\, including Art in America\, ArtNews\, PBS\, NPR\, The New York Times\, and The Washington Post. She currently serves as a board member for the College Art Association where she’s committed to considering art as scholarship. \nKristina Tollefson is a theatrical costume designer and builder whose work is rooted in artistic and intellectual collaboration to support all forms of storytelling through costume and environment. She is Professor of Theatre and Resident Costume Designer at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and a proud member of United Scenic Artists 829. Her work can be viewed at tollefsondesigns.com.  \nNicole Calderón is the founder and director of Calderón\, a space that champions artists and prioritizes institutional relationships and placements to make permanent\, publicly accessible contributions to culture and art history. Calderón previously worked with Tina Kim Gallery in New York as managing director. She was also director at Timothy Taylor in New York\, where she forecast the 2020/2021 growth of the Latinx art market by producing the gallery’s first exhibition of contemporary works by Latin diaspora artists. Calderón holds a double BA in Studio Arts and History of Art and Architecture from the University of Pittsburgh and an MFA from Kent State. She was born in San Juan\, Puerto Rico and currently resides in Philadelphia. \n \nMás información sobre las participantes: \nWanda Raimundi-Ortiz es una artista visual interdisciplinaria cuya obra se inspira en el retrato europeo de los siglos XVII y XVIII\, el cómic\, las escenas cortas de comedia\, la danza folclórica y la instalación para abordar temas como la raza\, los prejuicios\, el trauma y la sanación. Featuring lead artist Roberto Lugo in conversation with Tony Award-winning playwright and poet Lemon Andersen\, followed by a roundtable on the arts\, behavioral health and community wellbeing with speakers including Brenda Mosley\, Executive Director\, By Faith Health and Healing; Héctor Ayala\, CEO\, Hispanic Community Counseling Services; Dr. Carolina Hausmann-Stabile\, Director\, Population Health\, Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services; and Nadia Malik\, Director\, Porch Light Program\, Mural Arts. Hosted by We Here’s Community Advisory Committee of Kensington residents and Curator of Public Engagement Megan Voeller\, the program debuts a 15-minute documentary about the project by Philly-based Colibrí Workshop. After the forum\, enjoy hands-on clay sculpting activities with Lugo and We Here artist Nitza Walesca Rosario\, a Polaroid photo booth at Lugo’s monumental sculpture with artist Daisie Cardona\, music\, games and refreshments.
