Join us for 2 hours of creating art. We will bring the supples\, and or feel free to bring your art supplies if you wish to as other Artists have brought the art tool that they are most used to using. This is a great community that comes togher.  We will have snacks\, available. \nIf under the age of 18 you MUST have your Parent/Gaurdian/Caregiver Present (and not in the car) after all we do meet inside of an Art Community Center. This is also their policy as well. Parents are invited to create art too.  \nOur #1 Rule since June 2022 is “No Drama.” We do a great job in this area\, especially since most drama is unhealthy & see as wrong. This is important to us.

She attended Moore College of Art and Design where she received a BFA in 2D Fine Arts. In 2010\, she graduated with her MFA in Painting from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. \nAs an artist\, Priscilla looks towards her family\, surroundings\, and cultural heritages for guidance and inspiration. She continues to explore the issues that mean the most to her\, including Parenthood\, Environmental Justice\, the centering and uplifting of Black & Brown voices\, and Indigenous/Native/Indigenous Caribbean visibility. \nPriscilla is a MIT Solve Indigenous Communities Fellow (2024)\, recipient of the Leeway Transformation award (2024)\, “Distinguished Alumni” award from Community College of Philadelphia (2023)\, “Taino Muralist of the Year” award (2020)\, “Phenomenal Woman” award (2020)\, Leeway Art & Change grant (2017)\, “Taino Storyteller of the Year” award (2017). She also works as a freelance muralist with Mural Arts and is a painting instructor at Fleisher Art Memorial.

SUMMARY:Quilting Sustainably with Appalachian String Quilting (with Em Vieser)
DESCRIPTION:Attendees will learn about Appalachian string quilting and how to incorporate and reuse scrap fabrics into their practice.\n\n\nAttendees will learn about Appalachian string quilting and how to incorporate and reuse scrap fabrics into their practice. Each attendee will be instructed on how to create a mini quilt comprised of four 8″x8″ squares\, batting\, and backing. Appalachian String Quilting is a traditional approach to quilt making that makes use found materials and provides beginners with the necessary skills to go on and create their own quilts. The act of sewing and creating our own textiles is necessary to build self sufficiency and by using scrap fabrics\, we can be mindful of our environmental impact while also creating unique representations of our identities.\n \nPARTICIPANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BRING THEIR OWN FABRIC FOR THIS WORKSHOP! \nWhen registering\, if it’s within your means\, please consider a donation when registering through Eventbrite to help us cover the expenses of this workshop.
