SUMMARY:Philadelphia Mycology Club Holiday Party 2024
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual winter holiday social at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education! \nCome one\, come all to celebrate the holiday season with your favorite local mushroom club! To celebrate a fruitful year\, we will be hosting an afternoon of family friendly holiday festivities. We will share a potluck meal\, do some crafts\, screen the 2024 Fungi Film Festival\, and hold a white elephant gift exchange. We will have merch for sale with fresh selections of shirts\, stickers\, pins. and prints. We will have a guided walk at 1pm (weather permitting)\, but feel free to hit the trails at the Schuylkill Center earlier or after in the event and bring back some mushrooms for us to identify. The white elephant gift exchange will be after the walk. \nIF YOU ARE BRINGING A DISH to share please make a list of all the ingredients used\, to be displayed on the table. We will provide index cards if you need them. If your dish contains wild mushrooms that you foraged\, please make sure that you had them identified by other mycophiles\, and preferably retain pictures of the mushroom you cooked (in your phone\, etc). \nFind details here about the 2024 Fungi Film Festival. Please note that we have not pre-screened the films and it is possible that some may not be family friendly. The films will be screened in a separate room from the main event. \nIf you intend to participate in the GIFT EXCHANGE\, gifts should be relevant to the subject of mycology or an adjacent field and should cost no more than $25. Examples of good gifts might include: mushroom earrings\, a used field guide in good condition\, a loupe\, warm wool socks\, or a headlamp. **Please refrain from contributing gifts that contain alcohol out of respect for members of our community who have chosen to stay sober or are not of age.** \nPlease dress accordingly if you plan to enjoy the trails as this is a rain or shine event. Be mindful of ticks and poison ivy. An ADA Accessible trail is located on the property. Children are encouraged to attend. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted on the property\, so please leave your pups at home. \nBy registering for this event you grant the Philadelphia Mycology Club to use photographs and/or video of you taken at the event in publications\, online\, and in other communications related to the Philadelphia Mycology Club. \n**This event is free and open to everyone. The PMC is funded entirely through donations. If you are able\, please consider giving an amount of your choice at checkout**

SUMMARY:Seed Jewelry Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Learn to craft jewelry out of seeds and plant fibers gathered at the Schuylkill Center. Led by artist Eric “Ka‘ahele” Morales\, Ph.D\, you will learn to craft jewelry designs that consider color\, texture\, technique\, and environmental impact with reverence towards creation in all places and life. Take home a piece of jewelry and a deepened sense of connection to seeds!  \n  \nThis event is part of our current show\, Seed Stories: A Celebration of Land-based Creators\, which brings together several of Philadelphia’s seedkeepers to share the artistic practices they tend to alongside their gardens. Seedkeeping\, a practice of growing plants for seed harvesting\, sustains genetic biodiversity and carries forward ancestral wisdom\, ensuring the legacy of these plants and their communities for future generations.
