These items go beyond standard fashion\, often incorporating unconventional materials\, intricate craftsmanship\, or artistic techniques like painting\, embroidery\, or sculpting. The goal of wearable art is to express creativity and personal style\, blurring the lines between fashion and visual art. Each piece is often one-of-a-kind or limited edition\, emphasizing artistic expression over mass production. \nDress up as your favorite MURAL\, your halloween costume or in favorite local designers. The discussion will also promote his acclaimed exhibition Pyrrhic Defeat: A Visual Study of Mass Incarceration at Eastern State Penitentiary\, exploring how his portraits of over 800 incarcerated individuals and reform advocates challenge societal perceptions and foster critical conversations about the justice system.  Joining Loughney on the panel will be Lauren Zalut\, John Lee\, and Eddie Ramirez. Mural Arts Social Media and Marketing Manager Darnell Schoolfield will moderate.

DESCRIPTION:A conversation on the roots of graffiti\, its impact on public art\, and how artists can evolve into artrepreneurs. Moderated by Will Toms\n\n\nJoin us for an engaging conversation that traces the roots of graffiti culture\, starting with insights from ENEM and TameArts on the rise of wall writers in the ’70s\, ’80s\, and ’90s. ENEM and Tame will share their experiences from the early days of the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network\, revealing how it shaped its views on public art and Philadelphia graffiti culture as a whole. The discussion will then explore how artists can maintain the authenticity of graffiti and street art while transitioning into fully-fledged “artrepreneurs” in the fine arts space. Gianni Lee will speak to the evolution of street in Black culture and modern art and the journey of turning passion into a career. Moderated by Will Toms\, Co-Founder of Rec Philly.

Mural Arts will debut its branded programmable space at REC Philly with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony\, followed by a condensed guided Fashion District walking tour to kick off the Mural Arts spring tour season. Events and conversations at REC Philly in partnership with Mural Arts will continue throughout 2024.
