SUMMARY:Dante in Philadelphia: Looking Back and Forward
DESCRIPTION:Join The Print Center for a virtual conversation celebrating Tom Powers’ giant woodblock prints from his “Inferno” series. Powers will discuss these prints\, inspired by the cantos of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno\, with artist Jane Irish and master printer Cindi Ettinger. \nWith symbolic imagery and hand-worked surfaces\, Powers creates powerful landscapes that traverse the circles of sin\, inviting viewers into a timeless journey through human fragility\, its consequences and the hope of redemption. \nThis program is presented in conjunction with “Dante in Philadelphia\,” an exhibition of six monumental relief prints by Tom Powers\, presented in two venues during the month of November: Garden Loom J Irish Studio (737 N. 2nd Street) and C.R. Ettinger Studio (2215 South Street). \nVisit The Print Center’s website for more details and to register for Zoom.

SUMMARY:Virtual Toad Detour Training Session
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to protect our toads! Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge from brumation (the reptile version of hibernation) in early spring\, hundreds of them cross Port Royal\, Hagy’s Mill and other nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. On select nights\, when the conditions are just right\, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings\, saving hundreds of toads. \nSign up to receive a link to the Zoom meeting. \nWant to be included in all Toad Detour news? Join the Facebook group or send an email to volunteer@schuylkillcenter.org to stay in the loop.

Cuba’s Public Programs Coordinator. She graduated from the University of Delaware with dual bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Science and Wildlife Ecology. SUMMARY:Stormwater Runoff: Management and Regulation
DESCRIPTION:Join Climate Action PA and Speaker Brent Walls of the Potomac Riverkeeper Network to discuss the detrimental effects of nonpoint source pollution; particularly stormwater runoff\, and how it is affecting the city of Philadelphia and its surrounding regions. The Philadelphia Water Department launched a 25-year initiative in 2011 titled Green City\, Clean Waters; this program had the goals of reducing overall stormwater pollution as well as improving city wastewater capacity and quality of treatment centers. We will be diving into this initiative as well as how the requirements are enforced by organizations and agencies. Throughout this event\, we will learn about the issues surrounding stormwater mitigation\, new technologies being developed and implemented within the city\, and ways in which you can be an informed and involved community member on this environmental issue!

SUMMARY:Business for Impact Workshop: Foundation Funding for Impact-Driven Businesses
DESCRIPTION:Join SBN for an interactive workshop with Elizabeth Killough\, Co-CEO of the UnTours Foundation\, on how impact-driven businesses can apply and work with foundations. \nImpact-driven businesses are often pushed towards traditional bank loans to obtain critical funding for their work. While bank loans are an important source of funding\, they often lead to high levels of debt. Loans are not the only answer. In the greater Philadelphia region\, there is an extensive and growing network of Foundations that are able to lend to impact-driven businesses. During this workshop\, we’ll explore how these foundations operate\, why a business’s impact matters to foundations\, and how businesses can position themselves to receive funding. \nThis workshop will be led by Elizabeth Killough\, Co-CEO of the UnTours Foundation\, an international foundation based in Media\, PA. The foundation provides loans and support to leading-edge businesses that address social\, economic\, and environmental issues\, including creating jobs for vulnerable populations. Guests are encouraged to bring questions to this highly interactive and participatory lunchtime session. \nDate: Wednesday\, November 29 \nTime: 12 – 1pm \nLocation: Virtual (registrants will be sent a Zoom link before program) \nThis program is FREE for SBN members and non-members.
