SUMMARY:Maker Education Summit
DESCRIPTION:Calling all teachers\, educators\, and those looking to bring STEM education to their communities. NextFab\, alongside STEM Ed Consulting\, are hosting a day of learning and professional development to engage educators serving diverse populations. \nThis one-day event will be hosted at NextFab\, at 1800 N American St\, in Philadelphia\, where participants will work hands-on\, learning how to start or level up their makerspace\, connect with other educators and makers\, and take home a customized project. Starting with a tour of NextFab\, our technical experts will lead hands-on workshops to help participants make either a custom leather accessory\, cheeseboard\, or piece of textured jewelry to take home. After learning hands-on\, the day will break for lunch before moving into interactive workshops and demonstrations\, learning about makerspace safety and laser-cutting. Closing out the day\, participants will learn about the opportunities and how they can be a part of the Maker Education Movement\, an initiative dedicated to empowering K-12 schools in the greater Philadelphia region to embrace and advance maker education. \nIntegrating the maker mentality in the classroom allows students to own their learning while developing career readiness. No matter where you’re starting\, start making at NextFab and see how this approach can benefit your community. \nRegister Here.

SUMMARY:January Second Thursday at NextFab
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be featuring the Fixers Guild Repair Fair for our first event of the year! Why replace it when you can repair it? In these popup Repair Fairs\, the volunteers of the Philly Fixers Guild will help you fix your stuff\, free of charge\, and they’re ready for the challenge. Got tangled jewelry\, IKEA furniture that needs assembling\, or a vacuum cleaner that’s on the fritz? Sit down with one of their volunteers and they’ll help you hands-on with fixing it. While they do have some limits\, they encourage a read of their ground rules before bringing in your items. \nThis independent collective of talented volunteers from differing technical backgrounds is committed to the idea of “repair rather than replace.” These volunteer Fixers do not simply fix items for people but rather work with them to teach the troubleshooting and repair process. Ultimately\, our community will benefit from less waste and improved economic conservation. \nSign up for a  January slot here. \nTours of NextFab will be available\, and light drinks and refreshments will be served. \nWhat are Second Thursdays? \nFor 17 years\, the Crane Arts Building has hosted monthly art exhibitions\, performances\, and openings on the Second Thursday of every month. Similar to First Fridays in Old City\, but not wanting to compete\, Second Thursdays were created to highlight the creative community of the North Philadelphia neighborhood – and well it stuck! \nAmerican St. is becoming a booming street for artists\, makers\, and creatives of all types\, and we invite you to come out to be a part of this. Between the Crane Arts Building and the Clay Studio\, the NextFab building at 1800 North American St. houses seven businesses that also open their doors on the second Thursday of every month\, at 1800 N. American St.’s creative work ranges from maker classes\, sourcing salvaged materials\, empowering artists\, building bicycles\, supporting artisan businesses\, a gorgeous floral market\, and a restaurant mixing up amazing cocktails. All are welcome to this open house-style event! \nWhile at the Wheelhouse building be sure to check out our neighbors:\n\nThe Resource Exchange\nSor Ynez\nKeystone Bicycle Co\nBeaty American Salvage (City Ore)\nCenter for Creative Works\nVirida\nFarm N’ Sea Pets

SUMMARY:November Second Thursday at NextFab
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Women’s Jewelry Association Open House in the Jewelry Studio at NextFab!\n\nWhat is the WJA? The Women’s Jewelry Association offers membership to a diverse group of working professionals in the jewelry industry including business owners\, jewelry designers\, retail associates\, merchant buyers\, watchmakers\, and more! Their mission is to create and maintain a local forum to help peers develop personally and professionally by hosting networking and educational events throughout the year.\n\nIf you are looking to make business connections\, network about the jewelry industry\, or get more details about what being a WJA member can bring to you\, meet us for snacks and a good time at NextFab North on Thursday\, November 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm!\n\nMember benefits that come with WJA Membership:\n\nAccess to thousands of dollars in member grants and scholarships\nAccess to a robust mentorship program and member directory which offers an incredible network of professionals in the jewelry and watch industries\nEducational webinars and workshops\nMember discounts and more!\n\n\nWe’ll be featuring the Fixers Guild Repair Fair! \nSign up for a  November slot here. Between the Crane Arts Building and the Clay Studio\, the NextFab building at 1800 North American St. houses seven businesses that will also open their doors on the second Thursday of every month. At 1800 N.
