Starting at the Mt. Airy Trailhead\, we’ll head toward Frog Pond to talk about stormwater management and how frogs survive the winter through brumation. We’ll continue along the White Trail to Kitchen’s Lane\, with stops to share the history of the mill\, bridge\, and surrounding landscape.\nThe hike will also pass through the Monastery grounds\, where we’ll see the historic house and barn and learn about the site’s origins. If we are lucky\, we will see some of the horses and donkeys that live there. Along the way\, children can participate in a nature bingo activity\, and we’ll pause to observe mosses\, fungi\, and plants we encounter.\nAll children must be accompanied by an adult; no dogs except for service animals\, please.\nDistance: 2 miles\nDifficulty Level: Moderate (some inclines and declines\, uneven surfaces)\nAudience: Ages 5+\nParking: There is plenty of street parking nearby on W Mt. DESCRIPTION:Meet at Mt. Airy Ave Kiosk\nJoin us for a loop walk that includes five major trails in the Wissahickon and extends to Cresheim Creek. We’ll start and finish at Mt. Airy Ave and enjoy the surprising solitude as we venture into the woods on both sides of the creeks. Along the way\, we’ll observe natural and historic interest points as well as water management projects. This rigorous route includes some steep and rocky ascents and descents and is about 4.5-5 miles long. There will be the option to extend the hike an additional 1.5 miles for those up for the challenge.
