SUMMARY:How Native Americans Shaped Our Democracy
DESCRIPTION:The Great Law of Peace of the Haudenosaunee served as a model for and influenced the framers of the US Constitution.\n\n\nJames McKinley will trace the origins of American democracy to the Haudenosaunee\, the powerful Native American nation whose Great Law of Peace served as the model for the framers of the US Constitution. The Law centers around the concepts of peace\, harmony\, and\, most importantly\, unity. It helped establish the ideas of co-equal branches of government\, bicameral legislature\, and a system of checks and balances. \nSpeaker: James McKinley\, historian\, resides in Tredyffrin Township and has served on the Board of the Duportail House in Chesterbrook\, PA\, since 2016.
